When first open, the textured surface of the deep-purple flowers has a hint of a reddish-purple bar which fades as the colour matures to a rather more bluey-purple. The four or five broad tepals are narrow at the base and taper via crimped and wavy margins to pointed, recurved and slightly twisted tips. The stamens have greenish-white filaments and wine-red anthers.
