This lovely Clematis opens a deep burgundy-wine red and has a wonderful velvety sheen that adds depth to its colouring. As the blooms mature the colour changes to a deep purply-cerise and the six broad tepals taper to blunt, recurved tips. The stamens have creamy-white filaments and coffee-coloured anthers. A very lovely old, reliable Clematis.
Suitable for griwing in containers or planting in the ground.
Raised by A. Girault of France and introduced to Britain by Jim Fisk in the 1960s
