Large 15.0 to 22.0cm, violet-blue flowers with a paler blue central bar and a tuft of creamy yellow anthers. Blooming in two waves from spring through autumn the early flowers may sometimes be semi-double. This classic clematis has been bringing pleasure to gardeners the world over for more than 100 years.

Raised by Charles Noble of the United Kingdom and introduced in 1882 it was named after the title character in the George Eliot novel of 1876
