A classic clematis that has stood the test of time producing a mass display of 14.0 to 20.0cm, lavender blue flowers with a darker bar and deep red anthers on white filaments. Sometimes flowers are semi-double.
Raised by L. Spath of Berlin in 1891 it has received the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society 'Award of Garden Merit' for its outstanding characteristics.
