An older variety which is well proven and hardy producing masses of large 12-15cm, dark velvety-mauve flowers with contrasting greenish-cream anthers from early summer through autumn. The midribs have a reddish hue which fades as the flower matures.

Raised by T. Cripps of the United Kingdom in 1880 and introduced in 1882.
