A cross between Clematis Jackmanii and the large-flowered species Clematis patens in 1877, Clematis 'Gipsy Queen' been gracing gardens for many years. The stunning deep-purple velvety flowers with reddish overtones makes an impressive display and the flowers can fade to almost white in full sun. Can be treated as a Group 2 to get large, early flowers. 

Raised by Cripps & Son of the United Kingdom and introduced in 1877 it has received the Royal Horticultural Society 'Award of Garden Merit' for its outstanding attributes.
